EURASF

EURASF is a non-profit network of science film festivals, scientists, producers, filmmakers, distributors, web platforms, science communicators, journalists and consultants. The academy is an interest group trying to go beyond the existing working and financing relations when it comes to science film, lobbying for quality production in the field, looking for curated content, new forms and new talents, circulation of finished films and enhancing the visibility of European initiatives and capacities. It elects and gives an award for the Best European Science Film (ceremony and screening at changing festival venues from the different festival partners); it sets up a facility for showcasing films at the margin of the TV distribution system, SF_Aid; it collaborates in terms of best practices, bench marking, creative input, ideas and financing systems for the festival members. EURASF organizes meetings to discuss science film and to set goals and perspectives of the academy. Partner festivals are organising programs beyond film screenings, collaborating with schools and universities, science institutions and public and private organisation: Workshops, panels, keynotes, speed-dating, trainings, incubating of new science films are some of these activities. While looking for a deeper anchorage within the film industry, EURASF has been looking for partners like Sunny Side of the Doc, When East Meets West, Pitch the Doc or Enlight-ten+ and keeps searching for productive and dynamic cooperation with further members or partners in favour of its actual goals.
Some objectives of the Academy are:

• To strengthen the European Science Film in its importance.
• To form political policy positions and statements dealing with science communication and support their representation throughout Europe.
• To promote a European network of science communicators, filmmakers, film producers and festival organizers in Europe.
• To organize and execute public symposiums, events and courses on topics dealing with science communication.
• To promote and continue exchange of experiences between members.
• To co-operate with other organizations on both national and international levels.
• To encourage the provision of science films for an interested audience including pupils, teachers, students and scientists.
• To support good science films and filmmakers through programms and projects.
• To award the “Best European Science Film”.
